2023 Criminal History Amendment In Brief (Amendment #821)

"Amendments In Brief" are short summaries, usually one to two pages, of the Commission’s actions in a certain area of sentencing policy and the issue that prompted the amendment to the federal sentencing guidelines.  This document provides a brief overview of the Commission's work during the 2022-2023 amendment year regarding the multi-part Criminal History Amendment.

In April 2023, the U.S. Sentencing Commission promulgated amendments to the federal sentencing guidelines. Amendments will take effect on November 1, 2023 absent Congressional action to the contrary.
