Supplemental Data: 2026 Proposed Simplification Amendment

(January 8, 2026)  The Commission is seeking public comment on proposed amendments to the federal sentencing guidelines. 

To inform public comment on a proposed simplification amendment that would delete 26 specific offense characteristics (SOCs), Commission staff prepared a data table showing application rates for those SOCs and the underlying guidelines over the last 25 fiscal years. 

The data table also includes historical context on when the SOCs were added to the Guidelines Manual.
