CHAIR, UNITED STATES SENTENCING COMMISSION
ON THE SUPREME COURT’S DECISION IN UNITED STATES V. PEUGH

“The Supreme Court today reaffirmed that the Guidelines perform a meaningful role in federal sentencing. The Court recognized that the post-Booker federal sentencing system aims to achieve uniformity by ensuring that sentencing decisions are anchored by the Guidelines, and all members of the Court recognized the continuing influence of the Guidelines. I am especially gratified that the Court’s decision reflected the data and analysis contained in the Commission’s recent report to Congress on the continuing impact of United States v. Booker, which rendered the Guidelines advisory, on federal sentencing.”
